Visiting
the Libya of today also means to enter a world where ancient traditions
continue to be very much a part of everyday life. Those same traditions
that are celebrated at eventslike the festivals held at Ghat or Ghadames.
Not folklore for tourists, but a living
reality, a way of being that is communicated with a simplicity and a
sense of hospitality that only the inhabitants of the vast spaces of
this fascinating land, possess. Dazzling colours stolen from who knows
which enchanted memories glitter in the costumes: dances like that of
the gazelle re-enact the story of the hunter and the hunted, and here
the tea ceremony is a daily ritual.
Ghadames - the magic portal to the dessert - with their remarkably simple
architecture, where the time stands still.
